Tuohy wins Class A title by 42 seconds; F-M girls score 24 points By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland went under 18 minutes on the very tough Wayne Central course Saturday and won the NYSPHSAA Class A crown by 42 seconds over Saratoga Springs junior Kelsey Chmiel. Touhy ran 17 minutes, 51 seconds for yet another remarkable performance in her sophomore season. Chmiel, who won the title in 2016, was 38 seconds ahead of four runners from Fayetteville-Manlius, who went 3-4-5-6 on the way to an incredible score of 24 points. Tuohy and F-M will move forward as possible favorites to win individual and team titles at Nike Cross Nationals. Corning won a very closely matched team race against Fayetteville-Manlius, 38-40, to capture the Class A boys title. Silas Derfal of Ithaca ran 16:00.2 for a 19-second victory. Nathan Lawler of Pittsford Mendon ran the fastest time of the day, 15:58.2, to win the Class B boys race. Parker Stokes of Maine-Endwell was second in 16:06.4. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake scored 25 points to win the Class B title. Katherine Lee of Shoreham-Wading River won the Class B girls race in 20:07.9. John Jay-Cross River scored 57 points for the team win. In Class C, Chris Hughes of Glen Falls ran 16:52.7 and won the boys race by 10 seconds. Mount Academy won the team crown. Hayleigh Palotti of Livonia ran 19:24.6 for the victory in the girls race. CBA-Syracuse won the team title. In Class D, Tully freshman Brooke Rauber ran 18:51.6 -- third-fastest time of the day -- to win the girls race by 70 seconds. South Lewis edged Greenwich 62-65 for the team title. Kal Lewis of Shelter Island won the boys race in 16:44.6. Beaver River was the top team.
